In-service Hours
Q. I was wondering about the new In-Service Training hours. Are you asking us to comply with the new rules by June 30th, 2010? Since I have just now gotten this information we will have to scramble to get all of the extra hours in. I understand that this was just adopted in November 2009.
A. Yes, Accredited schools are expected to comply with the revised standard for inservice for the 2009-2010 year. The year began July 1, 2009 and ends June 30, 2010. Do you offer training for your staff during monthly staff meetings? Document and count it as in-service for UMAP. Did you attend any UMAP functions? Document and count as hours.
I am ready for Accreditation, What's next?
Q. My school meets the standards and is ready for Accreditation what's next?
A. You submit the Application for the UMAP Standards Observation and Evaluation Documents and the $100.00 fee. UMAP will send you the packet that contains all the evaluation forms you need to evaluate your program. When the paperwork is complete and your UMAP notebook is ready you are ready for a Validation visit.
Q. I am ready for a UMAP Accreditation visit, how do I apply?
A. Once you have completed the self evaluation, collected all the parent and staff surveys, and your UMAP Accreditation Notebook is ready fill out the Application for a Validation Visit. Send your completed notebook and the fee. UMAP will review the notebook and if complete will asign a validator.

Q. We currently have a staff member who will not be returning next year in her current position; however, she will be filling in as a substitute on an on-call basis. I don’t know how frequently this might be. Will it be necessary for this employee, in an on-call substitute capacity, to obtain 24 hours of continuing education or would the 10 hours required by DC&F be sufficient? We have one or two other substitutes who sub on a very infrequent basis, as well…3 to 4 times per year. What would their requirements be?
A. Any staff member who is required to have the 10 hours under DCF regulations would be required to have the 24 under UMAP Standards

Q. One member of our staff recently completed an on-line course in CPR. Would this on-line course meet your requirements? She has stated that she can also take an on-line course in first aid, if that would be acceptable. Please advise if these on-line courses will meet your requirements. Also, please clarify that ALL staff members must be trained in CPR/First Aid.
A. UMAP doesn't have a stipulation on how training for CPR First aid is provided. ALL staff must have CPR first aid.
